About The Hope E.S.L Software Curriculum

The goal of this project is to provide an interactive CD Rom which renders the spoken text of “the Hope” film comprehensible to the English language student in an inviting and achievable format.

  • The CD Rom will aid the student to access clear, natural1 speech relating to the images and audio text of the Hope.
  • It is aimed at students of an intermediate to advanced stage of English acquisition.
  • It takes a primarily aural (listening/ speaking) approach to learning language- due to...
  • - A: the repeated observation that language learners find these skills the most needed.
  • - B: the philosophy at the foundation of this curriculum is the communicative and developmental approach to language acquisition.
  • This software is appropriate for intermediate/advanced students working on their own, in pairs and in small groups and it is also hoped that teachers of English might use this resource as part of their continuing teaching of a class.
  • An ESL course based on The Hope material could be run as a 10 to 14 week Course Unit.
  • Such a course would not only be creative and technologically innovative but also encourage the building of relationships; both student-to-student and student-to-teacher.
  • The price of reproducing the CD legally is negligible. It can therefore be copied & distributed easily to ALL students.

    The Hope ESL Software Curriculum

    The Hope ESL Software is based on a film called "The Hope". The complete film is included, broken into 14 chapters. The design is all about story and becoming more comfortable with English as a language for actually communicating.

    The Hope ESL program is creative and engaging. Studying a laguage is hard enough without being boring or tedious.

    The Hope ESL uses hundreds of pictures. This turns your attention to ideas rather than words and structures. It is beautiful and enjoyable to learn like this.

    The Hope ESL is a strongly relational program. Language is ALL about relationships so at the heart of the Hope ESL is the "scaffolding" for students to interact comfortably with another person in English, whether a tutor or friend.
